How I Got Here
Before starting JA Virtual Assist, I spent over a decade as a Registrar at the Magistrates' Court of Victoria. On paper that meant coordinating daily operations across multiple locations. In practice, because it was a small office, it meant doing a bit of everything that came in the door.
I became the go-to person on the team without really planning to. Staff turnover was high, and the people who'd been there twenty years knew a lot of detail that wasn't written down anywhere. Someone needed to pick up where they left off. I naturally fell into it, which is where my eye for detail and process thrived. Not from a course. From real life expereience watching what happens when nobody writes anything down.
That's the background JA Virtual Assist runs on. 13+ years of being trusted to manage things independently, keep confidential information confidential, and make good calls without someone standing over me.
How I Work
Every business runs differently, and every client wants something different from the relationship. Some want a quick daily check-in and full autonomy in between. Others want structured updates and to be consulted before anything moves. I work to whichever style suits you, and I adjust as I get to know how you operate.
I'm also genuinely comfortable jumping into messy, undefined problems rather than waiting for a perfect brief. If a system's half-built or a process has never actually been written down, that doesn't worry me. I'd rather figure it out as I go than wait around for everything to be scoped first.
The first week or two with a new client is usually the slowest, and that's normal. Getting logins sorted, setting up two-factor authentication, learning how your business actually runs, that takes a bit of back and forth. Once I'm across it, things speed up. I pick up new systems quickly, and I'll usually try to work something out myself before I come to you with a question.
My Why
The honest answer is that I like the parts of the job most people don't. Repetitive, needs-to-be-consistent work is where I get into a rhythm, and once I'm in it, accuracy and consistency just come naturally. It's not something I find boring or a chore. I find it genuinely satisfying.
But the bigger reason is what it frees up for the people I work with. A lot of my clients are on the tools or in their business all day, and then get home and still have invoicing or admin waiting for them, often after the kids are in bed. I'm a mum of two young kids myself, so I understand exactly what that trade-off costs a family. Giving business owners their evenings back, not just their business hours, is a real part of why I do this.
I also just love watching businesses grow. Getting to be part of someone building something that's genuinely theirs, and watching it get easier for them along the way, is one of the best parts of this job.
